A few final faves – Kim

Just a handful of highlights I haven’t covered yet to wrap things up.

My French, Flemish and Dutch accents are spectacularly terrible

I have been laughed at throughout all of Europe. Good naturedly. How would you say stroopwafel?

I didn’t scream when my cod came like this, however.

I really admire that most Europeans are multilingual, especially in Belgium, where many people spoke Flemish, English, French, Dutch and German.

Paris at night is spectacular

Taking a night time cruise on the Seine is highly recommended. So is a better camera.

I love sculpture

Paintings too, but Angela has covered a lot of those already.

Walking Man by Auguste Rodin

Little Dancer by Edgar Degas

The Goat by Pablo Picasso

Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch

The Winged Victory of Samothrace

Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss by Antonio Canova
The God Osiris

Zaleucus by Jean Goujon

Delight in the unexpected

Bruges was something of an afterthought on our itinerary but every second there made me happy.

Buddhist monks at the Belfort courtyard.

We stayed in a 16th-century former guildhouse. The painting on those walls is original. I think the stairs may have been too!

Arya the adorable was our host Kate’s dog. Whether breaking into our rooms, eating expensive chocolate gifts, or scratching the door to splinters in a storm, she is one cute troublemaker.

So, so guilty. But a sweetheart.

The Choco-Story museum was surprisingly fun and nuts. Note the Lucia Libre chocolate cat.

And the replica of the local Michelangelo, Madonna and Child, in white chocolate.
